NYLD//2014!!!

Today I shared an experience with many other schools, one I will never forget.
The National Young leaders day 2014. The theme was 3D,  no not like your average 3D movie but how and why you should become a leader and bring your flat boring life to 3D! The speakers were,
Jamie Fitzgerald - First New Zealander to reach the South Pole
Angela Swann Cronin- First Maori descendent to Become a Royal New Zealand Air force Pilot
Nakita Turner- Young Singer/Songwriter
Charlie Laumatai- Attitude Presenter
Cam Calkoen- Founder of the Carabiner Mentoring Programme and Para Olympian Athlete.

Every word of very wise wisdom spoken from the mouths of these speakers made me feel incredibly proud of myself and happy to be head girl of my school. It was so emotional that my notebook was full of sentences that they had spoken only to carry over to the next page! I was extremely excited to find out who the next speaker was and always gave them a big Auroa round of applause, to make them feel welcome, because it's so hard to get up there and talk about your past failures and successes.

A fantastic day that was well spent with my other young leaders!  We woke at an early hour of 6:00am to be on the road by 6.30am but after a fantastic day it was all worth it, seeing your classmates that early in the morning is quite a shock for me! We finished up at about three o'clock but many of us didn't want to leave! Oh and you might have NOT seen up there that we had no special entertainment well yes, we did and boy were they hilarious! The Laughing Samoans were definitely a highlight, they made my friends and I cry with laughter and told the funniest version of "the three little pigs" yet.

My favourite speaker had to be Cam Calkoen who is just AWESOME! His inspirational words of how he pushed harder and dreamed bigger than anyone else dared to, was amazing and very emotionally inspiring.  He told us that we should try and make a difference and sometimes that involves hard work and dedication.  My favourite message of the day was spoken by Angela Swann Cronin which was "pain lasts a minute, but quitting lasts forever"  Have a look at the slideshow below with a few pictures of the day and if you still want to find out more  click Here

Life Up Close.

The Fall Collection-Life Up Close on PhotoPeach

Lately I've been quite interested with photography, when taking lots of photos I came to realise that we as big people don't take in our surroundings as often as we should.  This is a little slideshow of some of the photos that I personally like!  Every season I will be updating my blog with new snaps of my beautiful home town, Opunake.  Leave a comment and tell me what you think!

-Feeling Fed!

Mmmmmmmmmmmm Yummy Bacon!
YAY!! Finally the anticipated wait for food was over and boy I was looking forward to eating something substantial. You see I was hungry for twenty hours* some of the good people in Malawi have been hungry for 20 years! If anyone in Malawi is reading this, just know that the people of New Zealand are standing side by side with YOU! Thank you to the people who sponsored me  as my stomach rumbled!

* If your wondering why I only did 20 hours and not 40 considering it is the 40 hour famine! Well according to the rules of world vision organisation they recommend only doing 40 hours until I'm 15.

Going Hungry For Malawai!

No chips, no fruit and NO FOOD!

Imagine that! Well for the people of Malawi this is the harsh reality that they are faced with day to day, 20 hours was no skin off their nose! Fuelling their bodies with a rice porridge like mixture, that does NOT give them the nutrition they need to grow and live a life of full potential.

Today I truly felt for the first time how it is to go hungry, it leaves you brain-dead and tired and not very happy at all, this weekend help out Malawi by giving up something you take for granted and help out.

Emily's E-mazing App- Retica

A couple of nights ago I downloaded a new app on my ipod, called Retrica. This is picture taking app with loads of colour filters and special effects. I decided to test it out at my little sisters basketball game at the event centre in Opunake, Tonight both of the Auroa school year 0 - 2 teams played against each other.  I took some action shots of the game which are then processed into photo groups of nine that go snap, snap, snap, One after the other!   It is a great app and I would certainly recommend it for creative photographers.
Oh and nice basketball game both Auroa teams!!!

Here Comes The Bride...

Andrew And Kelly's Wedding! 2014 - Video Maker

I remember it like it was yesterday..... oh wait, it was!
My Uncle Andrew and Auntie-to-be Kelly were about to tie the knot and start their future together, it was a very special day where family and friends gathered together to help them celebrate.  The day went past so quick I only wish it lasted longer! I was very lucky to be able to attend the day, along with my immediate family, cousins and Aunties and Uncles.   It was beautiful weather, the bridesmaids wore a sunny yellow and The bride sparkled in Radiant white.  I loved to be able to get all dressed up and get my hair done for the day, It was fantastic to see everyone dressed for the occasion. I had a great time, enjoy the slideshow.

What a STAR!!!

Today was a great day for everyone as our school started electives!! A group of very different activities like mad science, ukulele and cupcake decorating just to name a few. The elective I was in you ask? Auroa all stars! A reunited singing band with serious voices that hit all the right notes! I was previously in this group but had so much fun last time I had come back for more! Today we sang our favourite songs into the microphone in front of the others which takes a lot of guts, then we wrote down our goals for the group and ended with smiles around our faces, I am eager to hear more from my talented groupies! Well done guys

Pictures: Google search, singing clip art.

Out And About!

Hands up if you've ever been to a museum...
Yesterday we visited our local museum Puke Ariki and took our cousins from Australia with us so we could both learn a little bit more about Taranaki history.  It is the worlds first purpose built fully integrated museum.  We had a great time, the stereotype of boring museums are now non-existent especially when you throw in a glass bridge and interactive mountain area, it makes it a lot more exciting!

My favourite part was the area named "When will the giant sleeper wake?' This area was about the history of our mountain.  I found it interesting that our mountain, Mt Taranaki was created by an explosion!  A great trip learning about where I live, and the background behind what made my home such a fantastic place to live.

GAME ON!

Silence. Isabelle nods, her eyes low and steady, I hear nothing but the single blow of the whistle a signal that put my arms into flight and my mind-set "GO!"  Isabelle snatches in the pass, a warning to her partner "the ball is MINE!"

The game is moving faster than my feet, a couple slips only made me play harder and the harder I played the more ball we were receiving and you know what they say, the more the merrier.
Half time "already!" I moan I was going so fast i felt like I could not stop! My heart was pumping out of my chest my nerves were all over the court, I couldn't control the winning sensation!

Not a moment too soon, that familiar sound of the whistle blew and before I knew it my legs were a runnin! This time i was wing attack, meaning defence was the aim of the game, my goal to make sure my partner would not get the ball, so I pounded my body with force like thunder, scary and intimidating, and literally pushed my partner to her limits.

After all our players were near at their wits end and we felt like we couldn't play anymore, the final whistle blew and an army of applause pelted down on us, as did the rain! Just in time, now it was time to celebrate our tight score of 24-20 win with a hot chocolate!!

Couziez From Across The Ditch!

After 2 years wait, they were finally here!
Ever had someone so special and so close to you that are just SO far away? That's what it felt like for me.  My two cousins are visiting from the city of Ballarat, near Melbourne in our neighbourly country Australia, Caela 8 and Lachie almost 7 (so he tells me!) were finally back on the farm.

It had been so long since we last saw them I couldn't even recognize them... or their accents! That true, blue Australian was really shining through! So far they have been here 2 days and luckily they still miss our hokey pokey ice cream and our "she'll be right" attitude! I really treasure this quality time, something as simple as sharing a joke and a laugh, because I don't exactly know how long it'll be till I see them again.  I miss them a lot sometimes but... its great to have them all to ourselves for the next couple of weeks.

Here are a few pictures...
