Face To Face...... Finally!

After a long wait she is finally here!
Sorry guys you probably have no idea what I'm going on about! Well, you may have seen some of my comments with the name "Jacqui" this is the name of my fabulous Aunty who is very proud to call Hamilton her home, we haven't seen her for quite a while and we just couldn't wait!

While she was here some of the things we got up to were........ Mushroom picking, fencing and quality family time! I have enjoyed her coming to stay and can honestly say I don't want her to leave, so now if you see her name online, you know who she is!

If you're having a great holiday and would love to share your holiday experience, send me a photo at  eforsyth@auroa.school.nz  but if your NOT on holiday still send me a photo and show me what you've been up to in the classroom or in your spare time, my favourite photo's will be published onto my blog with a caption and your recognition.

Run For Results!

All players are staring each other in the eyes, this is game time, I have to play my hardest and maybe that won't even be enough.

Silence. The first whistle blows this is only a trial but I put myself in a game state of mind, this is my team and we must work hard to win.

After only five minutes we are called in to talk about our foot-work and court balance the only thing I focus on is my drink bottle, man am I thirsty!  Before you know it we're back on court and rearing to go I stand like a shield pushing my defence off the line allowing me to make a loud and clear intercept. Perfect. My plan worked she misses the pass, I snatch it in, I'm a hungry tiger, I heave it down the other end of the court, someone passes it to GS she swiftly balances her palms, then, my favourite sound...... The swish of the net.

Congratulations to all those talented girls who trialled, for those who made it in congratulations! And for those who weren't so lucky keep trying, imagine how hard it would have been for those selectors!

Question to everyone:
Have you ever been under pressure? Been so nervous that you want to scream?
Share your story with me, I'd love nothing more but to hear from you!
Sincerely Emily.

CHOC NON STOP!

The first thing I heard was the thumping sound of feet running down the hallway, it was time.

A garden faced me, it looked normal from afar but if you look close enough bright wrappers stung your eyes and if your lucky you might just be able to treasure that brown, smooth, luxury.

We shot off like there was no tomorrow and found multi-coloured shiny paper and fired them into our baskets with no hesitation.
After a while all places and plants were searched, and we counted our eggs and hurried inside to do what?
Eat As much as we could!

Happy Easter Fellow Bloggers! Enjoy that Chocolate.

My good deed for the day!

The drinks were stacked ready to go, the smell of the sausages wafted over my way and just in time, students with gold coins in their hands, eager to get their Kai swarmed around us just like the fruit fly's were!
Dollar after dollar fired into the box and smiles walked away, I felt like a real chef! After a while business slowed and the BBQ began to cool down we decided it was time to sit down relax and.......
Count the money!

Harvest Time!

There's nothing better than the mind-blowing taste of home-grown food, Pumpkins and Feijoa's even picking them made my mouth water!  First up was the Feijoa's we had just laid netting to flatten the long grass so they were more accessible to grab.

Tip for newbies: NEVER grab Feijoa's off the trees! If they are on the ground this is an indication that they are ready to eat, and boy are they delicious!  We managed to scrape up a couple wheel-barrows full!

After Feijoa Fun we picked as many pumpkins as we could find (just a trailer full!) some of them were huge.  I felt like farmer Joe when I was on Nanna and Poppa's farm and I'm sure a few yummy feasts will follow!

Here is a few pictures about what we got up to......

Nothing Like Netty!

Wake up, the dawn is perfect, my eyes blur to the sight of my uniform and sneakers "YES!" I think to myself I was so excited first game of the season was going to be a great one.

Our freakishly tall team arrived at the scene and saw 6 courts taken over by teams in multi colours and whistle's blowing everywhere!  It was such a new experience for me the biggest league I've ever played in is about 5 to 10 teams, this league offered a challenge for our team, and I was so ready for it!

"Auroa to court three start time 10 minutes" We warmed up eyeing up our competitors, we could hear their whispers "wow they're tall" with eyes widened, and before we knew it, it was game time.

I was centre, I nodded in Alice's direction she mouthed the words "let's go". The whistle blew I threw the ball with mighty strength and Alice snatched it in biffing it down Isabelle's way she paused below the goal, the crowd grew silent with anticipation she slightly lifted her leg in the air and shot, my fingers crossed, the sound of a swish made me smile "game on" I thought to myself.

The Day couldn't have been better! Even the weather turned out for us.  With teamwork and encouragement we won 31-1 to the Stratford dynamite, a great team with amazing defence that put up an almighty fight and tried their best, thanks for the great game

Do you play a sport that you really enjoy? I would love to hear what you play or do for fitness! Sincerely Emily.

Think Twice Before You Type!

These days everybody is on the Internet. But is it good for us? I believe technology is great but cyber-bullying is WRONG!

Self-Esteem-These days social-networks are like a swarm of bees a few 100 join then it's a few 1000 and before you know it it's out of control. You might be happily putting others down on social networking sites such as snap-chat or Facebook but I bet you didn't know that cyber bullying is proven to cause low self-esteem. People don't realise that it has a greater impact on their personality and even worse their lives.People will feel neglected, alone and hurt, they will believe everything the bully or bullies are saying and will be sucked into their lies. Did you know that many people a year commit suicide because of low self-esteem and cyber bullying?

What do people achieve by hurting others? I don't understand and neither do the 3 billion people around the world protesting against it! So I think it's time to face the facts. Literally. 95% of social media using teens who have witnessed cruel on line behaviour before have simply ignored it, here's a quote to go along with that shocking piece of truth "Hiding behind a pretty screen doesn't make it better, words speak louder than actions" Think that's bad, hear this, nearly 43% of kids have been bullied online. 1 in 4 have had it happen more than once but only 1 out of 10 will tell someone about it. Terrifying information but the only way to change it is to change the way we ALL act on line.

So where are we going wrong? How did cyber bullying start? And how can we stop it once and for all? When people send you a mean text or message they are only doing it for one reason, to get a reaction if you respond saying "I hate u 2!" Then it has worked and believe it or not YOU have just started your own fight and it will only gradually get worse to the point where a group of people will trap you on the Internet and it's only because you fired them up. Sometimes the person who is the bully is somebody you don't even know but that still doesn't give you permission to respond in a mean way because that makes you just as bad. How do we stop it? That is a tough question but the only way is easy stop sending mean messages you bullies and if you don't respond sign out or off so you can't see or hear anything they say about you, remove yourself from the situation completely then you won't feel depressed and the bully's "plan" didn't work. You win.

Before you send that mean message, THINK. What are the consequences? Who will you hurt? How can you change them by one mean comment? If you're a cyber-bully then the Internet is not for YOU!

Have you encountered a cyber-bully that won't go away? Or are you one of them? To find out more click Here.

PITTER, PATTER!

It helps grow the plants in your garden, it keeps us alive , life as we know it wouldn't exist without it... WATER!

I hear it pounding on the roof, it's a small miracle at least I know I'm safe and warm in my cosy bed. I imagine the grass lapping up the raindrops like thirsty dogs. It has been weeks since the farmers have woken to rain, while I enjoy hot sunny weather it will be nice not having to worry about dust storms! Now that we have had the rain I can finally say autumn weather has begun.
The grass will finally be green again!

The first picture is of our beautiful sunset taken last weekend....... and now my new photo of our ugly miserable weather that has ended our dreaded drought!

The Wind-Back!

Daylight Savings Definition:Time during which clocks are set one hour forward of local standard time, at the beginning of spring to provide extra daylight during spring and summer in the evenings, causing the name "daylight savings".

The History Behind It: Daylight savings first began in New Zealand in 1909.  Sir Thomas Kay Sidey annually put forward a bill, to advance the clocks forward 1 hour from September to the following March.  In 2007 the government extended daylight saving from 24 to 27 weeks. Daylight savings now begins the last Sunday in September until the first Sunday in April.

Daylight Savings ends for us Kiwi's tonight so before you go to bed remember to wind your clocks back one hour! I will miss sitting outside at night and watching the sun go down over our beautiful mountain! Here is a picture of the sun setting over our farm, to me it's picture perfect! Roll on September!

What A Wonderful Way To Spend A Weet-bix Wednesday!

At the chilling hour of 7am my bike is attached to the car, my shoes are on and ironically the school's theme song is playing in the background as we hit the road, "I'm on top of the world!" the radio screams.  I sing along as I already knew today was going to be a great day!

The Speakers were booming with reminders about a free break-fast, wait a second FREE-BREAKIE! I was in!  But before any of that could happen my bike needed to be roughly placed in transition, after that I rushed in, dropped my things and scanned the crowd for the school.  BINGO! A bright banner drew me towards Mr.C and Piri, as I saw them swarming to the water front.

As far as I looked, all I could see were blue caps bobbing up and down Ngamotu beach, competitors were yelling "Oh My GOD!" as they hit the water.  I tried to imagine how cold and fresh the salty water would have been, well at least my race is far away I thought.

"12 year old individuals to the start line please, green caps to the start line please." A jitter flowed through my body, my head was spinning and I had a sudden urge to pee! Tough luck the line was colossal! I ran down to the beach and met with my fellow green caps, little did I know the queue was becoming shorter and shorter and shorter...those famous words silenced the bellowing crowd "on your marks, get set, GO!"

Before I knew it I was on my last lap of the draining bike ride before...BAM! I hit the ground. I had found my lace had wrapped around my bike pedal and stopped me from continuing my journey a marshall rushed over and helped me up, then tied my laces. I pushed myself over to the transition area, ripped of my helmet and I was trekking the hills on our run. The finish shoot was in focus, I saw Temepara Bailey* grasping a medal with MY name on it! I sprinted my little legs off, I splashed my running red, hot face with cool water, I had never felt better!  As soon as I saw mum, I took a big sigh and said... "let's do that again!"

*Temepara Bailey was a player in our nationally renowned team, The Silver Ferns it was such an honour to meet her!
Here She Is!

The Water Fight!

trim.wYzIeb from Emily on Vimeo.
On Monday the Mt.Spa swimming sports were held at our local swimming pools in Opunake. The Mt Spa cluster is a group of schools around coastal South Taranaki. The schools that participated were Manaia Primary school, Kaponga Primary School, Matapu Primary School, St Joesph's School Opunake, Opunake Primary School, Rahotu Primary School and us, Auroa Primary. To be eligible to participate you must do well at your own school's swimming sports first. I was entered in 25m free-style, 25m breast-stroke and 25m butter-fly. In my heats I placed 1st in free-style, 2nd in breast-stroke and 3rd in the butterfly and I was lucky enough to make it through to the finals. In the finals I received 4th in free-style, 2nd in breast-stroke and 3rd in Butterfly, then..... THE SCHOOL RELAY! This is what the Mt Spa shield depends on and I was in our school relay team along with Michael, Tom and Isabelle (our team is in the Orange Swimming Caps). In our relay heat we came 2nd, and made it into the finals. In the final it was a very close race where we came 4th. Overall there was a great effort put in by all of the students that swam for our school! Well Done Everyone!
