10,000 views on the web!

As I'm writing this post with tingly fingers I can happily tell you the viewer and reader, that Emily's E-Mazing Smarticals has reached a mammoth effort of 10,000 page views!  I had no idea that when I started blogging for fun at my little digital school in Taranaki, New Zealand, that I would ever reach this many views!   I have to also thank YOU, because right now that's another view to add to the many others. Thank you so much for stopping by and leaving some valued feedback, I enjoy reading it very much.

As the end of our school year is rapidly approaching, so too my blogs association with the school will end.  BUT DO NOT PANIC!!  As next year I begin a new adventure and become a high school blogger, I will be still sharing my journey with you and Emily's E-Mazing Smarticals will continue. I hope you will continue to stop by every now and again to see what I've been up to.

Thank you so much for reading and enjoying my page.

Kind Regards
Emily

New Zealand at it's best!

In the weekend....
Normally I would have said "chilled at home" but not this week! last weekend I had the privilege of seeing my country at it's best and I saw it all in a little place called Queenstown.

If you think that where I live I'm pretty lucky because of the mountain sea and nice weather wait till you see some of the pictures from Queenstown! Honestly it is amazing down there and I enjoyed myself so much. Weather your sailing the TSS Earnslaw or taking a ride on the fast and famous Shotover Jet your always having a good time. Overseas readers if your looking for a holiday destination, this it the place to unwind and enjoy. Here are some pictures of the action packed four days I had... BUT before you go please leave me a comment below telling me what you think is so beautiful about YOUR country as I would like to know also if you email me a picture of your country at it's best I will be sure to post it and show all my friends!

Once upon a DISCO!

A Magical bunch!
The lights were bright as we stepped in all of the students faces were masked in beautiful, wacky and weird costumes, DJ Bloor was spinning the newest and hottest tunes. It was perfect all we needed was some dancing and as long as the music kept playing we would just be fine!
But after many dangerous dance moves from our teachers! I began to realise that this was the last primary school disco that I would attend (sob, sob) So I picked up my dancing skills and had a crack at the limbo! Unfortunately I did NOT win (twist ending!) but I did have a very good time here are some photos to prove this.

Here is my question to you readers: Do you have a disco at your school? Do you dance your socks off?! If so please leave me a comment replying to this question.

The Seniors!

THANK YOU!

"Senior blog of the year is... Emily!"
These words were all because of YOU, you the reader and fellow commenters each and every one of you have contributed to my success.
But what did I win and how and where did I win it? Let me explain...
The MOA awards was a plan crafted by 3 principals from Matapu, Auroa and Opunake (MOA) this awards were to be a night of celebrating digital excellence throughout the three schools. One of the categories was "Blog of the year" I won this senior category (as you know)

and as soon as my hands grasped the clean glass I thought of you, the reader. There were MANY other categories but this was one I just had to enter. Once again thank you so very much and it may sound cheesy but I couldn't have done it without you!
Here are a couple pictures capturing the nights action, if you have any questions please feel free to leave me a comment below.

Once Upon A Time...

Spider man and Cinderella? Elsa and Greg Heffley?
These names and more were for the first time united at Auroa School for Book Character day and it was a definitely challenge trying to figure out who was who!

As I put on my long dress and LONG hair, I looked in the mirror and my eyes were deceived not even I could recognize myself! But as soon as I saw the rest of my siblings I was a bit speechless my sister was Tinker bell and my brother was wait for it..... A DRAGON!!
Now before I rush off to school I have a question for you all. Have you eyes ever deceived you? If so I'd love to know!

Quite the shakesphere!

This week in class we have been working on poetry writing. This is my free flowing style poem about a kiwi summer, give me your feedback and be sure to tell me what you think of it!

Our Summer.

Jandles pearched against dry driftwood,

While cricket is played on the smooth shore.

Ice creams overrun our diets and it seems we only know Christmas songs.

The days are endless and the sea is a must,

Opening its arms to the many swimmers.

Fish and chips under the pohutukawa,

while young ones dream of Santa….

This is our summer.

Boo's Big Day!

Phew! What a mouthful that title was! But there is no denying that my lamb will be sleeping just fine after one of the biggest Thursday's of my and his life.

The morning sun shone brightly as I nervously led my lamb through the busy chattering crowds and quietly gave Boo a pep talk "I believe in you" I whispered.
After many seconds passed the judges were gathering our competition into a circle and giving us some crucial instructions on what to do and finally... lambs began leading around and around the circle, but all of that didn't matter because right now it was my turn and I was determined we would try our best.
I came second for leading and third for calling. But the moment that I had been working towards were these words...
"Champion senior lamb for this year is...... Emily Forsyth!"

This event is the biggest fundraiser for our school.  Calf and Lamb day is definitely a sight to see. Many people from around the community help support this day and make it a huge success.  All of  the children, just like me have spent weeks training their animals to lead and call for lambs and many hours brushing their coats for the calves. We had a very successful cake and goods auction followed by a very exciting batons-up draw. As always the PTA BBQ was a hit with the crowd and the slushies' from the dairy cart went down a treat as it was such a hot day.

Have a look at the action packed fun in this slideshow.

That's A Wrap!

My shaking legs race up the stairs eager to speak, my mouth is dry but the words immediately come rolling out like marbles. Why was I so worried?

All my practise and hard work for these competitions had finally been worth something I was awarded with some great placing's and three scholarships worth $65! I was definitely so proud of myself and I can't wait to do it all again next year. That night I flopped on my bed and thought to my self now the holidays REALLY begin!

Here is me with my certificates and scholarships from the Speech and drama Competitions.

My Ticket To Taranaki!

Eyes wandering, feet shuffling, nerves flying. I was ready.

I glanced back at the swarm of orange runners, it was time. My legs stretched, my ears pricked up, ready for the slightest sound… “GO!”

It was only thirty seconds into the race when behind me I caught a glimpse of the bobbing heads which only meant one thing..., my competition were still right there. My head turned, they looked like a stampede, I needed to maintain my pace, but I wasn't feeling too good.

I was about to give up when around the corner I saw my Poppa's smile "you’re where you want to be" his smile converted to mine, first was perfect but... would it last?

Two laps down and one to go I had to leave everything on the line. No regrets.  Nothing would stop me. I was the wind. Going so fast that I couldn't control my legs and then all of a sudden "BAM!" my world was totally muted.  The thundering screams of the crowd had disappeared. I had done it. A smile a thousand miles wide was plastered to my face... I had won!

Market Day @ Auroa School!

Today was a very important day for our school, our unit topic for this term is "Re-purposing - the art of turning something old and making it new again" Every student enjoyed it but without a doubt the best part for me was the market day. At the start of term we all chose a re-purposed product that would be thoroughly tested and tried over the next few weeks. Our group chose an original idea called "Drinking Jars"

The Concept-

It was made of a Re-purposed jar, taped with a stripy design and then spray painted, once you peel the tape off it reveals a nice design we then drilled holes into the lids and added a straw. Afterward we filled it with juice for our customers. But the great part is, it can be used again, and again, and again!
We thought our idea was pretty cool.  Everyone must have thought so too because the customers kept pilling in so much that we actually sold out in a matter of minutes!  However there are also many other businesses and classes that need to be credited for their hard work and dedication.  Here is a slideshow with a few photo's capturing the day in all it's glory.

AKO Presentation!

These are our 2 presentations for our AKO. The top one is all about finances and the bottom one is basically an evaluation of the planning behind the concept. Hope you enjoy!

BOO!

After reading the title you may have thought that Halloween came early for me well... you're wrong!

The boxes of fluffy miracles sat so peacefully waiting, I could've picked any of them but there was one that caught my eye. She was beautiful. The fullest, fluffiest coat a girl could ever see, her eyes were so big and bold, you could almost see the horizon in them! I had to have her, I picked her up cuddled her tight and said "we're going to be the best of friends" in the softest voice possible.

After selecting my lamb, Boo and I begin preparing for calf and lamb day, Let the fun times commence!

So Close.... To Us!

An unknown white shape emerged into the clear on the back of a little truck. It was tiny. It also belonged to Scott Donaldson. The barnacles clung to the boat as if it were a part of them, as my eyes scanned the kayak I realised what was in the centre... his gear. His own personal belongings were stashed away in this long lost kayak that almost made history. He was SO close yet so far.  It was a world first expedition, to kayak solo from Australia to New Zealand. It was obviously a challenge for anyone and only a few had tried before and many had failed. The thing that gets me is he was 83km away... so close....yet so far.

I was one of the lucky ones who got to get up close and personal with the most famous kayak I've ever seen. Thanks Scott, your a hero.

Auroa Strikes Again!

Another set of stand-out games were played by Auroa, as they continued to "carve up" the competition we are not surprised.  Eltham must still be jaw-dropped!

Soccer- A no-loss team continues to impress the crowd. Following a 9-0 win against Coastal, Once again Auroa used their ball wisely. Ultimately thrashing Eltham 19-0 was highly worked for in a land-slide victory for the champions! Player Logan said " It was simply a great game!" We agree Logan.

Rugby- Another match made in heaven (pun) for Auroa's rugby boys! Using what their legs were made for and running the ball over the line every single time! Spectators such as Layton said "It was an exhilarating game to watch." What a great game with a great score 75-14.

Netball- Wether it's on the field or court Auroa never fails to disappoint. The girls from Auroa must have been almost walking up the court! Goal after goal Auroa continued to shut Eltham down and continued to run themselves up the scoreboard! Captain Gemma said "It was a very one-sided game, super easy and great work from the girls!" never stopping until the end a whopping score of 48-22.

After Auroa annihilated Eltham, It was fair to say they don't like coming second!

STRIKE!

The bright pink ball raced down the number 8 lane, everyone's eyes pasted like glue 1 pin, 1 pins, 3 pins the round bulldozer knocks them all down "STRIKE!" Mum yells with her hand's in the air, my friends and I brace ourselves... This is going to be a long game.

Now it's my time to catch up I'm four points behind and can easily catch up all I need is four pins, I cross my fingers readjust and... roll. At first it's flying but then I see it's head turning and before I know it it's gone my only hope down the gutter. Literally.

"Anyone up for air hockey?" Gemma asks, I smile, now it's my time to strike!

Playin' Coastal Style!

On a bright 15th of August the teams in orange and blue shone like never before!

Netball was onsided action from Auroa and as always thier offence was as sharp as a tack! Shooting was a pleasure to watch from the very accurate Brylee and wild card Leila.
But defence was another story, the twin towers Gemma and Isabelle pulled passes out of thin air! A fantastic display from Auroa, some work needed from Coastal. A score of 40-9 was well deserved.

Soccer followed the winning streak with goal after goal from the lightning-fast team. Coastal try as they might thier passion and hunger for the ball simply was not enough, a whopping score of 9-0 to the super soccer succeses!

Rugby didn't fail Auroa either! Managing to get as much ball as they could get thier hands on, and kicking till they could kick no more! A blinder of a game with a blinder of a score 57-25 obviously to Auroa.

Once again Auroa never fails to deliver great play on the field and court.

It's good to be a Kiwi... Fruit!

The cave of vines surrounded us, our bags rustled as we scanned the rows for gorgeous, green gold. The sun was dropping slowly, I was in heaven!

Today we were lucky enough to go kiwifruit picking at our neighbour's kiwi-fruit farm, after previously selling their goods, the family business decided it was time for the vines to have a rest - commercially speaking!  So they invited us to pick and take as many as we wanted! (lucky us)
And so it got me thinking, I don't really know much about kiwifruit so I decided to find out some more....

Some people overseas call it "kiwi"

The kiwifruit or Chinese gooseberry (often shortened to kiwi), is the edible berry of a woody vine in the genus actinide

It has a fibrous, dull greenish-brown skin and bright green or golden flesh with rows of tiny, black, edible seeds. The fruit has a soft texture and a sweet but unique flavor, and today is a commercial crop in several countries, such as Italy, Chile, New Zealand, Greece and France.
Cultivation of the fuzzy kiwifruit spread from China in the early 20th century to New Zealand where the first commercial plantings occurred. The fruit was called "yang tao" but was changed to "Chinese gooseberry" by the New Zealanders.

It proved popular with American servicemen in New Zealand during World War II. Because of this the fruit was exported to California using the names "Chinese gooseberry" and "melonette". Because the California based importer rejected these names the fruit was re-branded "kiwifruit" after the kiwi(bird) as the bird and the fruit share a similar appearance and both are associated with New Zealand.

Here is a slideshow with a few photo's to help explain my wonderful experience!

DRINK ME.

A few days ago I entered my story for the Elsie Locke writing prize. The theme is water, I hope you enjoy my story and please feel free to give me some feedback about what I could work on or what you liked about it. Wish me luck for the competition!

Life giver or life taker which was it to be? As I lie under the car, the metal pushed up against my back. The hot sun’s beating down on me, every time I see a cloud appear out of the endless blue sky I wish for rain - let it rain.

From night to day, from dusk to dawn, not a drop falls on the desert floor. I am stuck and I’m all alone. It was a second, then a minute, an hour and then… a day!

I can barely remember the image, my hands clutching the steering wheel, my foot wandering off the gas, my eyes drift close and life as I know it slowly disappears but what’s about to happen next is rather obvious… so here I am. Barely surviving, my eyes roll back and all I  see is the sun beating down, one ray after another, Oh fragile humanity!  I think of my family, back home worried sick, I think of the possibility of death. I wish for water. My already thin body is fading, my throat is dry like chalk, my eyes are itchy and sore. My lips are the desert. I want to sleep but fear overrules me. Scared of the consequence, what will happen?

Night falls and the desert grows cold. The swallowing black darkness engulfs me. All I can hear are the grains of sand rustling against each other. If only I knew what is going to happen tomorrow. All I know is that I’m going to be thirsty. Very thirsty.

I wake up and the sun is not as painstakingly warm as yesterday, maybe a sand storm is coming? Suddenly I feel something. A shiver travels down my spine like quick lighting. Is it a snake?  I’m too afraid to look, if this cruel animal swallows me whole it’ll be doing me a favour at least it’s a quick death. Dying from thirst is far worse. A slow and painful death.

One drop, two drops, pitter patter, three drops, four. My palm reaches over; and I lick my fingers. I savour the momentous taste, my tongue worms around trying to catch the sky’s tear, its taste, Oh sweet water! How am I meant to treasure this beautiful liquid? My brain slowly flickers, pitter patter, the drops are so distracting. They are bathing me for the first time in two days. Then when I’ve almost forgotten what I’m doing… It hits me head-on, why hadn’t I thought of this before? It’s so extremely obvious! I begin to dig.

I dig and dig until my hands turn brown, I dig and dig until my hands are numb, I dig as the rain continues to pour, bigger drops, louder drops, heavier drops they begin to fill my watering hole. My throat begins to quiver with excitement; I search around the car, I find a travelling mug, I dip the cup into the hole and take one great gorgeous gulp. My legs tense, my arms are wiggling free.  The water trench surrounds me, like a stream I burst my banks. Oh wondrous joy!

I gather my things out of reach for so long.  But as I run into the pouring rain I know there is one more thing I must do. I grab the mug fill it to the brim close the lid, and begin to write: Drink me, I am the world’s most wanted yet forgotten resource I am help, I am survival. DRINK ME.

A Night At The Opera!

The Curtain rose as the stage roared to life, excitement was among the audience as the lights dimmed, we took our front row seats and got ready for the show of a life-time!

One of the biggest musicals of all time had finally arrived at my home town! So it didn't surprise me that every show was a sell out. We were right in front of the action - so close you could almost touch them! The theme song silenced the crowd as a famous mask moved in the shadows "In Sleep he sang to me..." the orchestra boomed in time to the music a firecracker set off and the famous lot 666 chandelier rose to the ceiling my stomach churned, was being this close to that horrid face such a good thing?

I was mesmerised by the stage presence and the story, I almost fell off my chair trying to find out what would happen next! Then the sweet-heart Raoul appeared into the smoke to save his beautiful and hypnotised Christine "Christine, Christine" the phantom called from behind the mirror.
Here comes my favourite part - the masquerade. At the top of the stairs then BANG he was back at the famous box 5, the crowd could feel the phantom's desire for him to be Christine's lover. I was very taken aback with how different the language and vocabulary used to be back when the opera was written.

We walked out side into the eleven o'clock darkness, nothing but a few flickering streetlights kept the city alive. For some reason I found myself looking around for that man in the mask...

Here's A Picture of me outside the showplace before we saw "The Phantom Of The Opera" This is definitely the highlight of my holidays!

Drama Queen!

The bell rang and my nerves were finally settled I cleared my throat, and began to speak.

After many hours of practise my hard work was finally worth something! Anyone that knows me knows that I am extremely obsessed with speech and especially drama (jazz hands!) I have been competing in competitions and exams since I was 10, and since then my love for the hobby has expanded and I have found myself getting pretty competitive about it from time to time!

If your wondering what a competition atmosphere is like well let me paint you a little picture...
There's a professional adjudicator which marks each piece performed, gives helpful tips and of course awards the prizes! Marks are scored on individual sheets for each contestant, what's good about this, is that you know what you have to improve on next time round. There are many different sections, something for everyone such as improvisation where you receive a topic and have 30 seconds to think of what you are going to do and then you have to act it out in under 3 minutes without any props or other people.  Then there's sight readings which is a piece taken from a book of the adjudicators choice, that the competitors get 1 minute to skim through and then read aloud to the audience.  Also there are various Poems recital's as well.

My favourite part would have to be seeing everyone get up there and giving it a go.  Some of us will be skilled in this area and some of us might just be trying to have a go, which I think is awesome because public speaking is not everybody's thing!

All in all I had a great time and I came away with a trophy, I was placed runner up in the under 14 years scholarship section (shopping for me!) and gained some placing's along the way.  I entered 8 different sections and was very proud of my efforts.  Now I get to enjoy the next 2 weeks off relaxing and catching up on my other hobbies.

Do you have any more questions?  Feel free to leave me a comment.
Thanks for reading!

Robo Regionals 2014!

Robo Cup 2014 on PhotoPeach My Saturday morning started with a sleep in the car and a shower of nerves, our many weeks of preparing had finally led up to this. If you have been following my teacher's blog Mr. Webb you would have heard about our school's robotics program. This year my two friends Isabelle and Alice and I were determined to do well at junior robo cup 2014, but it hadn't started off very well as our robots went all wrong at the school dress rehearsal, the day before, so we were especially nervous for today.

The Poi princesses (our team name), yes that's a mouthful alright but if you're a kiwi you'll know the song "Poi E" but for us it was our theme.  We had two poi dancer robots and a haka bot, our many, MANY hours of programming and long gruelling problem solving was well worth the wait as our performance went strikingly perfect, we were so proud. You know what they say "win some, lose some" It may have gone all wrong at the dress rehearsal but it really did pay off at regionals.

We placed 2nd for junior theatre section and also won the audience favourite vote! We walked out of that hall with big grins, our robots and our trophy, followed closely behind me was my brother and his group with a 3rd place badge each, (not too bad for their first go, and only being year 6 students!) Finally my butterflies had escaped, I was overjoyed not just for us, but for the whole school.  We did Mr. Chittenden proud and we also help to fill the schools' trophy cabinet too!

PJ PARTY!

Pyjama Day 2014 - Video Maker

Today was what you could call an early start! As you can see (pictures above) anyone who had seen our school on Friday would know that we were all decked out in our.... PJ's! Everyone was so dressed up and in the spirit that it was TOO hard to judge! Everybody deserved a prize from panda to pickachu, everyone was dressed up in the latest and greatest sleepwear.  This was a great event with everyone dressed up well especially the teachers!

Today was a very important day for our school, it was none other than The Kissik Eraio Sports Tournament.  The sports involved are netball and touch rugby, the age groups are year 5-6 and 7-8.  I was involved in the year 7/8 netball team we were up against two very competitive teams, Matapu and Kaponga Primary, our team was ready to fight!

Our first game was against Kaponga, they started with hard  defence but we soon released our secret weapon, Teamwork. The game was carried out some great play and with both team's working hard it was a great game, but a winner was soon revealed with the score 42-4 to us!  A fierce competition was put up from Kaponga Black, well done!

Next up was Matapu, a tall team that we were ready to play! This game, just as the previous one had great competition from both teams and goal after goal Matapu put up our team worked hard to try and defend, we tried our best the overall score came out as 25-13 to Auroa (us) it was a display of  some great netball from both teams.

Both games were very fair and very fun! I enjoyed both games and wish these teams best of luck for their future games and endeavours.

Being a part of our school made me feel very proud today.  We won year 7-8 netball and touch rugby and year 5-6 touch rugby. The year 5-6 netball unluckily lost to Matapu year 5-6 team, it was an overall great day (apart from a bit of rain!)

Question for my fellow bloggers- have you ever had a sports competition? Or something that was very important to you or your school? Feel free to leave me a comment and tell me what it is.
